Nordisk Sikkerhet has successfully delivered protective equipment to State Border Guard Service (SBGS) of Ukraine, reinforcing efforts to prevent the illicit trafficking of radioactive materials and enhance personnel safety.
Following the delivery, an official handover ceremony was held in Kyiv on 31 March, attended by the SBGS, Semund Haukland, Counsellor/Head of Cooperation at the Norwegian Embassy in Kyiv, and a representative from the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. The delivery included approximately 4,000 sets of protective equipment ranging from modern protective coveralls, to gas masks, overboots and gloves, as well as 1,500 beta-gamma dosimeters. The equipment will enhance frontline detection capabilities in localization and handling of illicit nuclear and radiological materials at the Ukrainian boarders and ensure personnel safety in the event of exposure to hazardous radioactive sources.
The equipment is funded under Norway’s Nansen Support Programme and the Norwegian Government’s Action Plan for Nuclear Safety and Security, and as such aligns with Norway’s strategy for nuclear safety and security. It also builds on years of cooperation between Norway and Ukraine, including training programs and previous equipment deliveries.
The handover-ceremony marks the successful completion of: Project 027. Protective coveralls, masks, gloves and overboots for State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS), and the first phase of Project 029. Dosimetry and radiation monitoring equipment for SBGS in Chornobyl.
